Been on statins off and on over last 10, possibly 15, years.
Initial dose caused really bad leg cramps which was diagnosed as muscular which resulted in a load physio sessions which obviously did no good… 48 hours after stopping the statins, the pains went away. A client of mine, a dentist, had the same issues and reduced the dosage to one tablet a week from daily and his cholesterol level was well within the acceptable range which in my mind shows how over-prescribed they can be.
Thankfully, lockdown meant I slipped under the radar for longer than I perhaps should have, which meant when I needed an appointment to have a skin tag removed, I fell back under the GP’s gaze which meant he reviewed the notes from my endocrinologist more closely and saw the elevated cholesterol levels. I’m now on 10mg of Atorvastatin daily which I suffer minor leg cramps from but I’ve forgotten all them by the time I’ve gotten the hound out on his walk.
I’m seeing the GP on Thursday to discuss coming off the anti-depressants and statins, and whether a PSA check is necessary, I stuck a little stick in my shit 15 months ago and it was all clear, but it doesn’t hurt to ask
