A question on religious theology. The CoE to apologise (again).
Just reading this:
Church of England to apologise for role in historical forced adoption
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2e4eqqq7lo
So, the CoE is to apologies for what it now recognises as the abhorrent practices of forced adoptions.
The vicar at the time would no doubt have said he was doing God's work.
Does that mean that God was wrong? Where does this leave the theory of divine infallibility? Or did that go out of the window with the slavery reparations?

But the Big Guy is infallible, right?
So if he was dishing out the orders, he's can't be wrong now. Unless he was wrong back then.
In which case, he ain't infallible. So why should we believe anything else he's (allegedly) said?

He or she was misinterpreted and today's vicars are 86% more accurate at interpreting the word of the lord.gremlin wrote: Wed Apr 08, 2026 3:17 pmBut the Big Guy is infallible, right?

Divine infallibility ? You are having a giraffe!
Look at the current nastiness. A three cornered fuck-up with Jewish zealots, Christian zealots and Muslim zealots. Which of those 3 'gods' is right?

Dependent upon your viewpoint, of course.

Technically, they're all the same one. Just the sons/prophets that kept developing the plot line.Cousin Jack wrote: Wed Apr 08, 2026 3:30 pm Divine infallibility ? You are having a giraffe!

It's all a load of (often quite dangerous) bollocks anyway, IMHO.

Re: A question on religious theology. The CoE to apologise (again).
There are always 'zealots' but also, a lot of old time religion was about control and money, nothing to do with doing good.
I'd say that modern people looking at stuff from the past would see the errors; and hopefully wouldn't make the same mistakes.
But all work/hobbies/religions have idiots - hopefully less as people get more knowledgable, maybe !! And of course, if they are loud and make groups of other people feel good/better than others, then their views are followed more than they should be

Nothing wrong with religion. What men do in its name, or through misinterpreting its holy books, is another thing though!

There's plenty of potential for wrong uns in this thread. Religion threads are worse than politics

But the holy books are the word of God. Surely he/she is clever enough to write unambiguously?Taipan wrote: Wed Apr 08, 2026 6:44 pm Nothing wrong with religion. What men do in its name, or through misinterpreting its holy books, is another thing though!
Alternatively it us all a load of tosh, used by assorted people (mainly men) to control people; especially women.

Re: A question on religious theology. The CoE to apologise (again).
I only close threads that break forum rules. But try to remember that different people have different beliefs a d that's OK. That doesn't make one person right and one wrong. Both people can be equally right, in their own minds.Cousin Jack wrote: Wed Apr 08, 2026 7:53 pmYou'll be closing it then? Fwiw im not religious but I totally understand sone people are and certainly on this forum, they're nice people.
You do seem to be quite insistent on criticising my moderation and running of the forum though fella, which is fine, but I completely disagree
