Instead of all this campaigning for blanket PSA testing the effort should be put into a) developing a better test and b) either routine MRI scans for chaps of a certain age or ultrasound scans - which are only a tad more complicated than the 'finger up bum' test and give waaaay more information, in real time. They could do that in mobile units like they do with breast scans.

Apparently advances in MRI technology (reducing cost and therefore increasing availability) are still some way off, so maybe we have to be grateful for what we've got for the time being. I had to wait the best part of 4 months for my MRI, and I don't think I was massively high risk from the PSA score alone, so on the whole it seemed a pretty good service. I keep having to remind myself that this is a golden age of medicine - 100 years ago we were still very much in the realms of old wives tales and rubbing yourself in goose fat.

4 months?! I've obviously been spoiled - been MRI'd 3 times (+ CAT scanned twice, X-rayed until I glow, had day-surgery twice and various other bits and bobs). Don't think I've had to wait more than 6 weeks for anything. Maybe I picked the right region to live in for my accelerated decrepitude stage of existence.

Given the capital cost of MRI kit they should really sweat the assets and run them 24/7. If push came to shove and I wanted it done pronto I'd be there at 3am given the opportunity!

As far as prostates go, the ultrasound scan option sounds very promising. Much as it goes against the grain I'd probably cough up and pay to have that done rather face a several month delay. Must be cheaper than an MRI I'd have thought.

My v15 is two months out of warranty and the battery suddenly and without warning packed in.

Remembering that I've had great customer service from them in the past, I thought I'd give them a ring to see if there was anything they could do.

One new battery is now enroute, FOC. Saving me £109

Sat at lunch with a few of the other inmates yesterday and towards the end I got a whatsapp message. That noise is set to a sort of spring noise, like Zebadee - boing-boing-boing

So I laughed, put it on silent and explain that the Zebadee noise made me laugh - then said, no idea what it would have been called in France, but its The Magic Roundabout in the UK and there was a rabbit that smoked a talked like he was stoned!! I found a picture online of the charachters to show what I meant

Cue a couple of them looking up the French names etc. Me pointing out that I have never watched the modern version, only the original. Then there was a search to find out when it started (we all guessed wrong, in both directions!)

So, I'd finished my coffee, there was still lots of debate about it when I said bye, have a good afternoon. Someone laughed and I said - Yup, drop in the info and leave you guys to search and discuss!!!

One of them did threaten to come find me if necessary, luckily no one did!!


Just made me laugh - honestly didn't think anyone would be remotely interested but instead I left a group of about 6 people (not everyone was involved) searching and discussing The Magic Roundabout

That reminds me of a South African friend who was wearing a Lineman t shirt. When we asked him about it, he was surprised that we'd never heard of it. I've since watched and enjoyed several episodes. It's very silly.

I think I heard that they do that in the US. (although the amount they charge I'd consider investing in an MRI lab myself).

Waiting times seem all over the place in the UK - you're probably the first I've heard who hasn't rolled their eyes and whined like a milkfloat about NHS waiting times.
Anecdotally, one of my best mates is almost two years into waiting for a replacement prosthetic leg. Unforgiveable really - I keep telling him I could have whittled one in the shed by now.

TBH, every time I've really needed it, the NHS has been ace. I guess, for the most part, that's how it should be - life or death? 'Get in here pronto sir!'

It's certainly patchy geographically and not so hot in some aspects locally and that seems to have become worse at the local level as the universal cry has it, 'since Covid'. For a local health service it can seem pretty distant at times.

My comment to someone recently was that 'to NICE I'm a statistic/cost, to our Health Centre I'm one of several thousand, to me I'm THE patient and the only one with real skin in the game". If that means I have to do my own research and become an expert in what my current problem is and create my own 'pathway' and become an expert in using the NHS app, knowing how to get something escalated or saying ':angry-cussingblack: it, I'll go private*', so be it.

* and that really annoys me, not because of the cost, but because that seems to be the new 'not-so stealthy privatisation of the NHS' gameplan.
