How do you play / listen to music?

Home - Spotify via a multitude of Sonos speakers

Bluetooth to my hearing aid. Does not bother anyone else then.

Bluetooth to the sound systems in the church.

I've setup Bluetooth systems in both places of worship, so it is much easier to have music in the background or for worship.

I don't listen to music in the car very often, but use my Bluetooth to hearing aid for longer drives.

At home - CDs, radio (FM rather than DAB), or very occasionally I take out the vinyl.

In the car it is Radio 4 or occasionally local radio.

Through my superb Sony WH-1000MX4 headphones while walking the dog or working in the garden. Or through my Marshall DAB speaker around the patio or in the garage.

I very rarely listen to music. I suppose it comes from my work life, up early and out on the bike for an hour commute, I never listen to music on the bike. In the office all day, then an hour home. I never listen to music in the car, there's too much going on around to concentrate on. I don't subscribe to any streaming services. I could ask Alexa to play a radio station or I could stream though my hearing aids if I want to, I just never do.

I don't watch TV either.

Spotify via Samsung earbuds when I'm out.

Humming to myself in the shower. It's great, I can pause it whenever I want and if I get bored of humming that song, I simply skip to the next one.

When I use my phone in the van I use Musicolet. It's an offline app that only plays what you have stored. I like it, it does what I want and that's all I need.

Home is vinyl or cd, but 90% vinyl. Work or car is dap.

Either Audible books via Bluetooth or DAB Radio 2 in the car but never when Jeremy Vine is on

Gym / running - Spotify or recently Pace Setter podcast on BBC sounds via Bluetooth ear buds or (new) bone conduction headphones

Around the house, Radio 2 via various echo devices or Spotify via earbuds depending on what I’m doing.

I can link up an old record deck yo the Sonos, but once the initial novelty wears off, it becomes quite tedious turning over the record or having to get my arse off the chair to find the next one to play.
It's like having to warm up an old solid metal iron to press a shirt. Novel, but a plug-in steam iron is soooo much more convenient.

Audirvana on laptop into a babyface fs dac which is a studio quality bit of gear for recording, rotel pre power and tannoy 636s. On high res music it's absolutely sensational. Cant quite believe what im hearing. I spent some time treating the rear wall and ages pulling the speakers around the room.
The babyface is insane.

Tidal is high Res but because windows doesnt change properly between tracks so use audirvana and it works very well. Spotify is low res. They are missing a trick as the interface is great.

All of this is fine if you have a dedicated room, set up for top acoustics with a chair placed just so that you can sit and listen intently to the music.

Invariably, my Sonos is on all over the gaff whilst I'm showering, cooking, working, hanging up my smalls, etc., so the convenience of that outweighs any small drop in quality.

There's 'listening' and there's 'having some music on'. Just like you can have the telly on and be doing other stuff or you can be watching a film, following the plot etc or sitting listening intently to yer Philip Glass opera collection vs singing along in the shower to whatever happens to be on the radio station your little waterproof radio is tuned to.

'Orses for courses innit? Sometimes sound quality matters more than others. Having more than one option is allowed.
