Looks like all the others to me, apart from it looks sort of 'eyeless'.

Would you have an electric car if you had the money for a new car and were in the market for one?

You can even buy shares in ETFs now with classic cars as the underlying asset, as far as I know actually owned and stored away so there is an actual underlying value, not like an option traded that just gambles on the pricesCount Steer wrote: Tue May 26, 2026 11:28 amI don't know if it still exists but there was a (London based iirc) car club with a whole fleet of desirable stuff. You paid a monthly sub and, depending on the amount of the sub you got points which got you x days a year in the cars of your choice. Some days like weekends and Bank Hols were more points and the points for each car varied depending on value, rarity, cost of keeping it mint etc.Taipan wrote: Tue May 26, 2026 11:17 am Many years ago we sold a Lotus to a guy who sourced cars for people. He told us he also provided a full maintenance service for his clients, battery charging, valeting, taking them for services and MOTs. It was rumoured that his clients were mainly from the music industry and included people like Elton John, Mickey Most and a lot of other celebs. I didn't believe it when we were told about him, but later I thought it makes sense that people would employ someone to make sure their fleet/collection was turnkey ready. Nice work if you can get it!
Seemed like a great way of trying out many different things. I suspect a few members were marginal con artists though - pitch up at places/meetings pretending they owned them in order to create an impression of wealth/success.
Seemed like a perfect option - driving stuff without the buggeration of buying, owning, maintaining, storing, selling....
You can't drive the cars, you just own shares in the fund that owns the cars.
Although from what I know none of these funds have ever done very well, I think most went under.

If ICE were to be replaced by leccy in any competition, then I reckon Trials is the prefect sport!

Interesting twist!
An objection to solar and wind power generation is that they're unreliable.
Announced in France:
The power utility EDF has said four nuclear plants were likely to curb output next week because of unusually warm cooling water in the Rhône and Garonne rivers.

I'm picking my brand new Tesla model 3 up this morning from Bristol. So this afternoon, we'll be a two electric car family.

MrsJawa has traded our 1.5 TSi Scala that I had remapped and the DSG mapped too, for a Hyundai Inster.
It's a very odd thing, far too many buttons and electrickery and the manual is like War and Peace
It's nippy enough, but tops out at 80 odd and looks like a toaster crossed with Michael Gove.

The Jaguar iPace is extremely cheap used now.
£10k. I think they were 70 odd new.
I don't know if I'd have one though, they still look like a fancied up Qashqai to me.

I wouldn't touch one out of warranty with a shitty stick, when they work they are great, but they don't work all that often. Typical JLR product.
The wife wanted one so I joined a few groups and forums, scared me right off.

If you want to go into the desert, take a Range Rover
If you want to come back, take a Toyota Land Cruiser

For the first time in the UK, more new electric vehicles (EVs) have been sold over a 12-month period than petrol cars, according to Carbon Brief analysis.

Drove past the 10 acre field full of recalled E Jags again last week... it's now closer to 20 acres or more.MyLittleStudPony wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 11:25 pm The Jaguar iPace is extremely cheap used now.

My neighbours had a Jag SUV EV (I-Pace?) but I notice they no longer have it, but have kept their Range Rover. Must find out what happened, or why they got rid of it as i know she loved it?

It must have been bad if they kept a RR over it !Taipan wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2026 9:24 am My neighbours had a Jag SUV EV (I-Pace?) but I notice they no longer have it, but have kept their Range Rover. Must find out what happened, or why they got rid of it as i know she loved it?![]()

He's had his Rangey years now, and i think he had an issue with the air suspension, but that's it. TBH I don't think there's a reliable, modern car out there and the ridiculous service intervals aren't helping either. A while back i was talking to a mechanic I know and use, and he was saying how crap modern cars are with electrical gremlins and wet belts etc blah. I asked what he thought was a really good relaible car? He said if he were to go around the world tomorrow, he'd probably opt for a Picasso 2.0 HDi!v8-powered wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2026 10:48 amIt must have been bad if they kept a RR over it !Taipan wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2026 9:24 am My neighbours had a Jag SUV EV (I-Pace?) but I notice they no longer have it, but have kept their Range Rover. Agree - all im hearing and reading is how bad this new wave of Chinese cars are and then the wet belt engines etc in Ford and French stuff.
I'd prob take an old RR over most of that shit.

At the risk of tempting fate: I've had a 2019 Mazda 6 estate for the last 3 years. It's been as reliable as a [insert example of reliable thing here].Taipan wrote: Sun Jun 28, 2026 11:13 am... TBH I don't think there's a reliable, modern car out there...
