So this could be your last motorbike?!

Or should we start a sweep on how many bikes you can fit in between now and then?

What made you decide to quit? I thought you were inclined to carry on given that you enjoy what you do. :eh:
I bought the nc750x to serve a purpose. They are fantastic at what I need it to do, which was to commute reliably and economically, into a city with speed camera laden cops along my route. An exciting bike is not needed right now. I have a few commitments, or obligations, or whatever, to some elderly members of the family, and I simply don't have the time to mess around with bike maintenance. So, buying it, with a service plan, made it a calculable way forward.

Sadly, I get fuck all support from other family members, due to their misguided principles, again, hence the nc750 purchase. I think my (ridiculous? :D ) purchasing of multiple bikes has kept me sane, as it stops me focusing on my somewhat draining life. So, will the NC be my last bike? Probably not? But I cant see anything else coming in soon though, as I dont have the time, or inclination, to ride anything else? But by the end of next week I could have a 1390 SuperDuke or Diavel or another Harley as I'm very impulsive and fickle. :D

Yeah, I do love what I do, but kids leave school knowing more about digital imaging than I'll ever learn. We now have a push to provide imaging that meets the varying FADGI standards, and, TBH, whilst I can do this, it makes it a much slower, lethargic process and not the ad hoc camera work I enjoy.

I'm into my 60s now, so, do I want to keep pushing myself, or maybe start winding down? My wife worries that my health is fading, which, TBF is true. In my 50s I started falling apart with MSK and respiratory problems. So, do I keep working, and looking after other people, or think about myself, and my wife, and tbh, I owe her that. Financially, I think we'll manage? If not, whilst I'm certainly not a money/investment kinda guy, I've always been able to earn it, and I think i'll be able to top up what's needed if that's the case...

TLDR: My life ain't my own, but I want it back

Funnily enough, my wife just said to me, you won't need that new bike now, you may as well sell it and get something like a scooter for around town. I'm thinking Tmax...

Gold. Manafuck, one of the few wise decisions I made about 5 years ago was selling my woods and buying gold.

On a slightly related retirement note, anyone want to buy a large double garage with an ensuite 3 bed bungalow right by the beach in East Sussex?
Lovely garden, parking for about six cars, only six houses in the cul de sac. Downside is I live in one of them and I'm the director of the company that owns the private road :)

Been retired three years now. Unexpectedly bumped into a couple of old colleagues. They said that they still speak about the work I did and the support I gave them, plus many others across the business. I'll not lie, it made me feel really happy. Knowing I made a positive difference means a lot.

Still glad I'm retired though.

I'm retired and bought a 1390 Super Duke last year, Taipan just needs to aim a bit higher.

Nah, i'm pretty much done with bikes tbh. More likely to go for a car of interest now.

Same.

It's a long story, but the short version is we should have been retired by now and moved back to the life we set up in the UK, but my daughter got married, had a baby (and another on the way), my son moved here after the army and now he's doing really well, so we don't want to move back to the UK and leave all our immediate family behind, our grandkids won't even know who we are.

So we worked out a sort of compromise for ourselves, we'll stay doing what we're doing, working, supporting family, etc, but we'll start living as much in our heads like we're retired as we can.
I don't know if this is making sense but instead of working and looking forward to retirement, we tried to mentally kind of imagine that we're already there and we're retired but we're still working

It was just a mindset change, instead of working to retire at some point in the future, we took the pressure off mentally (as much as we could with demanding jobs) and we try and enjoy everything as much as we can now, instead of shelving a lot until retirement, which we realised we were doing.

At some point we do need to draw a line, we will have to pack up and go and live our own lives, you can spend the rest of your life putting everyone else first, but this doesn't feel like a bad compromise for now.

Must admit fella, I have no clue why you still work.

Sell the cars and retire on the pension you have.

Whar are you actually earning for now?

Would you enjoy 2 weeks off?

Would you enjoy a month off?

As he says above, you've been out of work plenty, just never for long.
It'll be strange for sure, but as long as theres enough money I can't see how itll be strange in a bad way.

I had a career break of 12 months tbh 3 months was enough.
NHS retire and return is a good programme so I won’t get bored but will still have some time for myself.
Money wise it’s about evens

That's possibly the reason for me, as we'd be down on income compared to now. So I guess its hard for me to walk away from a good income, having spent so many years making ends meet?

Your personal finances are insignificant; shareholders of eBay, Amazon, etc al are holding emergency meetings to cover losses from upgrades to your 'essential' commuting vehicle purchases ;)
