The monkey has transformed a little lately, nice smokey screen and a bit more growl from the new exhaust. Stock is very quiet and this gives a lovely deep throat kind of bumble.

It also gets rid of the cat. Later MY25s come with 2 x O2 sensors as apposed to earlier 1s and earlier, earlier nones. Black widow make a down pipe with 2 x O2 bungs so a straight swap and no emls, so far.

I think the latest euro standard exhausts really are making things difficult and are very restrictive. The original downpipe was a tiny diameter, so we'll see how this goes.

The monkey is here to stay, doesn't stand on any toes in the garage and there is a great community of very sensible people out thur. It needs no more. 🐵👍🏽

That exhaust doesn't really suit the bike, just my 2c.

I'd have rather put something like that, but being JDM it's not much louder than stock so might not meet your wants.

I'd be surprised if it doesn't eventually throw an engine light.

The first sensor is meant to monitor what the engine is doing and, when on closed loop, adjust fuelling appropriately.

The second sensor is there to ensure the exhaust gases after the catalyst have been cleaned sufficiently, and throw an error if not, because that indicates the catalyst is performing below expected efficiency.

It sounds much better and has the 2 x O2 bungs, not many about.

There's sneaky ways to make the sensor not realise the cat's missing.

Have they done anything crafty like set the second sensor way back out of the flow, or put it behind a partial screen?

The screen looks great and I like aftermarket exhausts that dont look like the original.

I put a Black Widow on my Van Van and it didn't cause any problems so I guess the computer was able to adjust to it.
I have read that people who put aftermarket exhausts on my new Scooter have had Warning lights come on so I think
I will keep that standard.

I might get an O2 extender which pulls the sensor out of the flow and hopefully reads clean, before getting an eml. Just incase.

Today I managed to get out on the monkey. I did get the eml come on after fitting BW exhaust and de- cat. Not on a 10 minute tickover after installing but on first run out.

Start up this morning, on filled with fuel, on, but on it's next start up it didn't come on. After 20 odd miles and a couple more on/offs, it's still off. I'm hoping the ecu has made friends with the new levels and is now happy.

Time will tell. 🤞

At the risk of repeating myself, the Euro 5+ standard introduced a second O2 sensor specifically for checking that the catalyst is still performing as expected. Since you've removed it, there is a zero percent chance that it is.
Meaning the light isn't going away. Not on its own.

Was it a Euro 5+ bike with two O2 sensors, like dodge's monkey?

There will be various criteria for the light to come on. Maybe it has to fail 3 ignition cycles in a row. Maybe it went out because you (deliberately or inadvertently) switched the ignition three times and stood on your head and hasn't come back yet. Etc. Etc.

Yep, it's probably not the end of it, but for now it's off. 👍
