Your Happy place. 🤔

Post by Dodgy69 »

Just coming off the back of Counts tourist thread, I got thinking about this. The place or environment where you feel happiest, you not your partner, be selfish.

For me, it's pretty simple really and a recent trip on the monkey to Wales was it. Sun shining, a couple of nights away, just riding some fantastic mountain roads at a leisurely pace, stop/start photos, no people to piss me off, just the odd natter to like minded folk at parking spots.

Also, sitting outside a pub on a sunny weekend break with Mrs D just people watching, or whatever else takes my eye. 😁, along with walking by the sea. Simple things really, but you know where you're happiest.

Forest of Dean for me. In the woods, in the sun, on my MTB.

Beers at the bottom waiting for me... blissful

A little grey home in the west.

My grandmother used to reference a little grey home in the west and later I found out it was a song from her era. She came from Peasedown St John but moved to London to marry my grandfather. Quite independently, I am always happy in a quiet corner of the west and I start the season with such a holiday every year. Add a nice morning coffee to that and it's definitely my happy place.

In my head. I carry it with me everywhere and if you see me wearing the thousand yard stare, that's where I'll be. 8-)

You’ve seen it before… 7 miles of sandy beach, 300m behind it. ❤️

Need I say? Italy, ovviamente .

No idea why. We went there in our early twenties and, for reasons I've never been able to figure, it just felt...right.

Basically, the top, or at least near the top, of a mountain in winter :) Best when on my own :)

Image

The goal this winter is to be able to walk to the top for sunrise - I've been told today that skiing in December might be a bit early for the knee, so I suspect I'll be aiming for ski touring and with all the leg work to get strength for the knee, I'm really hoping I can start to get right to the top on a weekly basis :)

Selfish... Hopegill Head. Climbing up the beck surrounded by the hills then you pop over the top and suddenly can see everything. It never gets old.

On a more serious note, ie not just 1986 :D I was going to post this as an example of places that I remember with a degree of euphoria.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cirque_de ... prov=sfla1

There's a local-ish chap that makes superb wooden boxes with 3D tops created from contour maps and I was close to having one made based on a particular viewpoint in the Cirque du Gavarnie. A friend had one done of the area where we live with her house location in the centre marked by a tiny gold disc. It was a box to keep 'memories' in because she had it done just before they moved to Shropshire.

Anyone want to give someone the unique present his name is Tom Aylwin and his web site is....

Pretty much anywhere where there aren't too many people, and sometimes that can be a very low number. It's not that I dislike people, I like them, but lots of them stress me out.
