Rode to work with no jacket on today First time I've done that for many years, but even with my mesh jacket on yesterday, the heat was getting to me when tuck in rush hour traffic, and i felt a bit wobbly a couple of times! Have to say riding along at a steady 50mph into the breeze was lovely and brought back many memories!

Cheers for that, just down the road to me. Will try to go there on Sunday for their car and bike meet (the one in Cox a couple of weeks ago had no more than a dozen cars an half a dozen bikes there).

It seems that I have acclimatised to the heat here now. Been 33°c to 39°c during the day this week, not uncomfortable when riding in armoured jeans, mesh jacket and mesh backed gloves.

From October 1, (at least in mainland Spain) DGT mandate the use of approved protective gloves on all interurban roads, and closed-toe footwear on all road types.

All the scooter folk are in sandals and flip flops.
Not a glove in sight.

I often just wear shorts and t shirt if just riding tye scooter into town, but always wear gloves and trainers.

Traffic so much lighter here and l only encounter three junctions between home and town.

I went to Col de Rates with a friend yesterday, I've ordered a mesh seat cover, that was a very sweaty ride back.

Hopefully the Google maps link will work. Bocadillo de casa at Cafe Beni in Benigembla was good.

I guess riding trainers are the bike ankle boots? Way better than flip flops or sandals!!


I'm more and more risk averse since the shoulder then knee incident - with this current knee issue, if I broke it in another accident as it is or with the total replacement, there's a very big risk of it not being fixable (bit like my shoulder). Even so, I preferred full boots before and moreso now that I know they saved my ankle/lower shin 9 years ago!!
I do want to find lighter/breathable gear to go with the airbag search for a refillable one that protects shoulders!! But proper boots and reasonable gloves are top of my list (helmet doesn't hit the list, that's a given!! )

The problem I have with riding in trainers is that once, a long time ago, the laces on mine got tangled around the gear lever. I never noticed until I stopped and then toppled over at traffic lights, my left foot stuck to the bike. I had a couple of people lift the bike up enough that I could get my foot out of the shoe. Don't ride with show laces flapping around in the breeze.

I ain't as daft as I am cabbage looking, loose ends get tucked under the laces once tight, never had them come free during a ride.

I've been using sheepskins on my bike seats for years now. Personally I find them far better than mesh covers for long distance comfort.

Thanks for the map, I often ride the route from Aspe to La Nucia (after a visit to the bike museum near Castell de Guadalest) then on to Finestrat then onto Relleu, and finish at El Campello by the coast for refreshments. All great roads, but still trying to find a new and twisty route from El Campello to home.

Out on monkey earlier, jacket not zipped but press stud fastened. Cuffs unzipped and over gloves to get air up sleeves. New vented pants, sorted.

Stopped at pub and when taking jacket off, ouch. Didn't see it but probably a wasp. Big lump on my back. Probably went up sleeve or maybe front possibly.

Be careful out there.
