Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
Today's malarky... Rusty fairing hardware spent a night in the Evaporust. I'm missing two of the dome nuts, two of the countersunk screws & one of the washers.
Dome nuts will likely get replaced by 10mm Nylocs anyway (there's a bunch of dome nuts on both GPz's)
The two screws are from the mirror mounts & I may have spares.. I've got a few spare mirrors for parts
& the 4th washer was here.... until I dropped it in the garage last night causing it to teleport to another dimension... bugger.

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
This crack closes up when manipulated, so it will be getting a hot staple or two on the back side. Picked up a 50W hot stapler from Horrible Fright for a pittance. The reviews of the 100W versions on Amazon were all over the place & the 200W jobbie had even worse reviews.
Got a lot of sanding to make those stress cracks disappear... I see a lime green rattle can in my future...

Crikey, found some bloke in the US who made some exact replicas of the tank/seat bracket doodad! Hope he has some left as he made them a few years ago...

Fired up the hot stapler. Thank fuck I didn't get the 100w or 200w versions...
First attempt I managed to put the staple right through the fairing. Reheated it & removed that one... started over, got the hang of it by end... two wrigglies, two wavies. Probably should have used four wavies.
and should have used those visegrips instead of trying to hold the crack closed with one hand when I put that first one through the fairing.
No biggie, short, but steep, learning curve is all.

Dragged home a 2nd vintage shop cart so I can semi-organize all the 750 stuff in the garage instead of having it spread all over the floor, which also gives me more room to actually work instead of constantly stepping over stuff.
Too frigging hot to do much else today (101deg)

Got a refund from Partzilla this morning as they don't have the rear fender they claimed they had... The bike has a rear fender, but some pillock made a complete arse of cutting it.

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
The three kickstands:
#1, On the bike when I got it, no spring, hook or plate doodad
#2, Bought for the spring, arrived without the spring
#3, Bought for the spring, arrived with the spring, arrived a couple of hours after I dropped off the stuff at the powder coaters.
#1: Has a small tab that activates the kickstand ignition cutout if you try to put it in gear with the stand down. Tab is hammered flat so the cut out not only doesn't work, but it neatly bypasses any issues caused by the switch fucking up.
#2: The one that went off to the powder coaters. Doesn't have the tab at all, but looks veeery nice
#3: Has the tab & it hasn't been hammered flat, but hasn't been powder coated.
I'm ok with using the one without the tab, one less thing to break.
In other news: Exhaust paint is still sticky & the entire system looks like fried dogshit. Before it was painted, it merely looked like regular dogshit.

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
Arsebiscuits & buggery bollocks...
On the left is the caliper kits I ordered without the pistons, then realized I needed the pistons too.. so ordered the kits with the pistons. What showed up today are the kits on the right.
Original pistons don't use that big fat dust seal & have no groove. New pistons have a big groove for that dust seal.
Old pistons WITH the isolators are the same height as the new pistons WITHOUT the isolators, With the isolators they're 3mm taller.
& the other rubber gubbins is obviously different.
New piston on left, old piston with isolator in the middle & without it on the right... Isolators aren't removable on new or old pistons, two of the old pistons had isolators that were buggered & fell out in pieces.

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
Plan was to put the first (pistonless) kits in the parts stash as the GPz11 has the same calipers as the GPz750 (& GPz900-R, KZ1000-P etm), but the 11 has 280mm rotors to the 750's 270mm

Brakecrafters were great to deal with, They've already sent the correct kits & sent a doodad to print out to ship the wrong kits back. Will be dropping them off at FedEx today.

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
Been getting daily updates on the whereabouts of the right handlebar that was apparently coming from China. An hour ago I got one that had an apology & mention that they had not the first fucking clue what country it was even in...
.. It was sitting on my doorstep

Re: '83 GPz750-A1 malarkey.
I have abandoned my Luddite ways & signed up with PP. This was to facilitate buying parts without the ballache of not owing a checkbook.
First buy was a box of stuff from a guy here in Ca that had all sorts of gubbins I require for the GPz750 (especially the front master cylinder), but I also spotted some bits I can use for the GPz11 (indicator relays).
Second buy was an exact replica of the bracket that secures the battery, the front of the seat & the back of the gastank. This part:
I decided not to ask the self-professed *carpenter* to make me one like he made for his own bike... Thank fuck we weren't relying on this guy to build the Ark..
