Went really well. He sat in the lead bunch of Ds for a chunk, then 2 jumped off the front and we let them go knowing they'd get a DQ later. So into the final 1.5km and in a group of 6, he kicked out of the underpass, but so did everyone else... He then hung in until the sprint, lost a few places, gained a few places, finished 6th on the road out of 30. Was a good result and a great race for him.formula400 wrote: Fri Jan 22, 2021 3:36 pmweeksy wrote: Thu Jan 21, 2021 5:04 pmnot at all mate, my lad was just warming up for his Zwift race, i was pit-crew. Sadly he got a DQ due to being too light. Zwift isn't helpful at times with small strong kids. So we've stuck another 10kg on him.
How did he do with the extra weight![]()

Re: Zwift, riding and racing.... update thread, info thread, motivational thread.
My Snap was delivered a couple of days ago so I set it up and signed up to zwift and today was my first go, an hour's session to get used to the new trainer and how zwift works.
I read about the pace setters so thought that I've give the cat D one a go and see how long I could hang on for.
and the answer was about as long as I reasonably expected tbh, considering that up to now my training has been GCN video's which are about 30 mins long and are mostly sprint and recover efforts.
I was doing alright until 23 mins in there was a sprint that I couldn't resist, which then went into a bit of a hill and that was wave goodbye time
what surprised me was the suddeness of hitting the wall. The next 35 minutes was all about trying to keep with a group, getting dropped, trying to keep with the next group, repeat to fade....litteraly, turning the pedals was an effort at the end
.
so there we have it, average power over 60 mins - 138w.
It can only get better from here so it'll be interesting to see how quickly it improves

That surprises me but i think you'll improve that when you learn pacing etc..Taff wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 3:31 pm so there we have it, average power over 60 mins - 138w.![]()

aye, it isn't grand that's for sure, but the learning point is, that after the sprint my legs died completely so 35 mins at a low power just trying to keep the pedals spinning really crippled that figure.weeksy wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 3:38 pm That surprises me but i think you'll improve that when you learn pacing etc..
it's a baseline and somewhere to start from so we'll see where we're at in a month's time

deffo mate yeah. It's nice to have figures, just try not to read too much into them at the start as the increases can be quite dramaticTaff wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 3:57 pmaye, it isn't grand that's for sure, but the learning point is, that after the sprint my legs died completely so 35 mins at a low power just trying to keep the pedals spinning really crippled that figure.weeksy wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 3:38 pm That surprises me but i think you'll improve that when you learn pacing etc..

Re: Zwift, riding and racing.... update thread, info thread, motivational thread.
I've got a few hours in the saddle now and starting to get used to zwift, last night was a 14 miler around New York that took me a shade over 60 mins.
Battling up a 15% climb was interesting, mainly because it exposed that at that level of resistance the tyre can slip so I think I may need to give the tensioner another half turn to try and stop that from happening.
How do you find events & races?
I'm getting a bit confused between zwift website, zwift app, zwift companion app. Why TF can't it all be in one place?

Zwiftpower came about because Zwift didn't do races. Category etc.
Zwiftpower has now been bought out by Zwift.
The companion app or zwiftpower show you the upcoming events.
I give it 2 1/4 from touching.
What's your spindown time from the wahoo app?

Zwift power??? Is that an old name for what's now the companion app? I'll have to spend a bit of time mooching around exploring the app.
I've just checked and the adjuster was about 1.5 turns so it's now up to 2.25. and the spin down time is 8.3 sec but the app does say to be pedaling for 10 mins before doing it, so I'll do it again after warning up tomorrow

Ahh, I missed the bit that said it needed to be between 10 &15.
I've been out and fiddled it to 11 and even from a standing start in the highest gear the tyre will not slip. result, ta

Good spot. They stick em on every few weeks as they get stock. They don't last long.

I'm starting to get in the swing of things now, I did the tour de zwift event this afternoon. I went into it with the intention of just sitting at about 200w for as long as possible which might not sound much to you seasoned pros but that's a level where I expect to be dropping off long before the end
)
In general it went well, frigging hard work to maintain the effort for so long and my legs really are feeling it now.
at the end I got a message that I haven't seen before - Zwift has detected an increase in your FTP - 172w
ok, that's a starting point to work on

Fair play on the wattage. Good going (note to self: not to invite Taff on the RTTL Sarf Dahns extravaganza when all this COVID shit blows over)Taff wrote: Wed Feb 03, 2021 7:43 pm I'm starting to get in the swing of things now, I did the tour de zwift event this afternoon. Remember that your ftp is personal to you and is useful if you're following training plans/workouts that have specific intervals. For a more accurate idea of what it is would be to do an ftp test i.e. ramp test or 2 x 8minutes, 1 x 20 minutes etc.Taff wrote: Wed Feb 03, 2021 7:43 pm I'm starting to get in the swing of things now, I did the tour de zwift event this afternoon. You probably already know all that but there may be people that don't.
