Re: utterly random picture thread.
I remember buying half penny sweats in the shops in the mid 80's, when they did away with the half penny the shop keeper started sellotaping two mojo's together and selling them for a penny.

Re: utterly random picture thread.
I seem to remember sixpences were kicking around a bit as legal tender for a while after decimalisation as well. I think they were worth 2.5p and you could buy 5 blackjacks with them.David wrote: Mon Feb 15, 2021 5:42 pm There were half pennies after decimalisation.

Re: utterly random picture thread.
The 5p and the 10p coins were made the same size as the shilling and two shilling coins they replaced. The old coins were used alongside the new and gradually withdrawn from circulation. I seem to remember that the half crown (2/6 or 12.5p) coin was also retained for a while.wheelnut wrote: Mon Feb 15, 2021 9:46 pmI seem to remember sixpences were kicking around a bit as legal tender for a while after decimalisation as well. That price list takes me back to the day when you stopped being able to get 10 pints for £1. Flotterstone Inn, outside Edinburgh, cheapest beer for miles. I must be grown up.

Took this yesterday..Shows
how our island emerged.

Our mates who live in PB sent us a satellite shot of the island in Oct 20 (brown, volcanic!) and in Feb 21 (green!) to show the difference this winter has made. They also sent us the satellite shot of the calima earlier in the week. Seems half the Sahara landed on you all.Yorick wrote: Thu Feb 18, 2021 11:57 am Took this yesterday..Shows

That pic has been doing the rounds here. But the calima was short lived, only 1 day. But still dumped a lot if dust.lostboy wrote: Fri Feb 19, 2021 11:56 amOur mates who live in PB sent us a satellite shot of the island in Oct 20 (brown, volcanic!) and in Feb 21 (green!) to show the difference this winter has made.
