At one point ours was 15% It went down, salary went up, so from living on bread and cheese everything went double-plus good. The place we bought with it went way up (that London) so triple plus-good really.Mr. Dazzle wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 11:03 amYeah it's nuts - my first mortgage was 4.89% and I remember loads of people from my parent's generation (which is most of you lot, TBF) telling me that was way lower than they got. I've just re-fixed at 1.14%!KungFooBob wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 10:56 am I fixed my mortgage for 5 years last month at a very low rate, so I'm feeling smug.

I've got some of them too...Count Steer wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 11:37 am You can still get 5-6% dividend on some 'safe' shares like Legal and General. Not no risk but not a reckless punt either if you spread the risk.
Probably time to bank some profits? But if Tesla keep getting orders for 100,000 cars who knows? My chum just bought one of their energy walls too and that business isn't shrinking. Just need Elon to watch what he says.Mr. Dazzle wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 12:10 pmI've got some of them too...Count Steer wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 11:37 am You can still get 5-6% dividend on some 'safe' shares like Legal and General. Got savings doing buggery nothing! Got 'safe' funds currently getting single digit percentages. I've also got Tesla which I bought in spring, lost about 20% on and now I'm 70% up! Same with Nvidia, went down loads and now >60% up. Volatile is the word!
Chips is an interesting one. The shortage has gee'd things up a bit. The uncertainty over Taiwan etc. Probably a good area to analyse but not one I've got enough knowledge on to get involved in for any real £. The markets not going to shrink though!Mr. Dazzle wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 2:42 pm Tesla is a long term thing, I'm not expecting anything like that sort of growth in the long run but i do think they'll do well out of batteries and grid storage over the next 10 years or so.
Nvidia were a total punt 'cause they're making their own chips not just for graphics now - gotta be another long term grower?
Just a stocks and shares ISA, nothing fancy.Potter wrote: Wed Nov 03, 2021 2:33 amWhat platform do you use for share trading?Mr. Dazzle wrote: Tue Nov 02, 2021 2:42 pm Tesla is a long term thing, I'm not expecting anything like that sort of growth in the long run but i do think they'll do well out of batteries and grid storage over the next 10 years or so.

So although it came in with one hand and went out with another, at least it did to stop me from paying for it! I'll take that as a win still!

Someone has to put the interest rates up soon and stop printing money or it's going to be worth bugger all.
Buy watches and cars.
I fixed my mortgage for 5 years last month at a very low rate, so I'm feeling smug.
