Magazines - Anyone still reading them?

Post by darthpunk »

A few mags have gone under in the last few years, just wondering who reads what?

I buy Ride and some times Bike/Classic Bike. Once in a blue moon i'll get a copy of Adventure Bike Rider. Get free trials of Readly every once in a while and flick through some bike/car/music mags.

Saw one through InstaFace called Adventum, https://www.adventum-magazine.uk/ , seems a bit more luxurious and aimed at the lifestyle crowd, at 12 quid it's a bit rich for me

Nope.
Stopped reading BSH many years back when they dropped a feature I enjoyed.
Last magazine I read and subscribed to was American V, but they stopped printing a year or 2 ago

Recently downloaded the 'Libby' app and logged in with my library card. 240 car and bike magazines available. A quick scroll suggests all the bike ones I've heard of are there + foreign ones (spotted a Spanish 'Dos ruedas' - 2 Wheels - mag).
The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.

The missus brought me an MCN from uk a few weeks ago. Not even opened ot.

I used to love going to shop on Wednesday to buy it on way to work then go straight to toilet to read it :obscene-birdiedoublered:

I occasionally get one.

Bought Motorsport last month for the Hamilton/Ferrari articles which were interesting.

Sometimes buy Ride or Bike if I'm flying (i prefer to read from paper when aloft, no idea why), or if there's a particular article i spot.

I've got a subscription to Adventure Bike Rider, had it years, I wouldn't know how to cancel it.

No. Haven't read magazine for years. I used to have a sub to Practical Photography, which was a present from my Mum, but that was about 2010?

This winter I bought a couple of copy's of Bike magazine when they, were doing 2 mags for £10 or something. For the last 2 issues the other mag has beeen Classic bike which now features such bikes as the original Africa Twin & Ducati 916,there's also a good interview in this months CB with Hoss Elm of Moto Cinelli fame,a good read & I wouldn't have known about the Ducati tales if the mag hadn't been bundled in a deal with Bike magazine.
One of my mates subscribes to Classic Mechanics but he's a 'Shed head' & spends more time spannering than riding...

Maybe once or twice a year I'll buy a bike mag,or MCN.

The problem is,I'm not who I used to be when I was an avid mag reader and the publications seem a piss poor, watered down, sterile and humourless imitation of what I used to enjoy.

I don't think there's any fixing either of those things, time has moved on.

I've never really read bike mags. I did recently take out a subscription for a Cross Stitch magazine but that's the only one I get and if I'm in the uk I might get an extra one if the patterns in there look good :) :)

I also use Libby for magazines. I just checked under the mattress but it looks like the Mrs has dumped that stash of boyhood mags :angry-cussingblack:

What I do buy are books on particular motorcycle makes:Honda, Guzzi, Harley etc. Plus motorcyclist based books. Currently reading Dunlop. Brilliant photography and often truly heart rending stories. What a family!!

December 2023 my father asked if I'd renew his subscription to Classic Motorcycle for his Christmas present, which I did. He died on March 8th last year so I redirected the magazine from Ireland to me in Spain. I've read a couple of them, there's seven left to go through.

I buy one occasionally, often at an airport for reading on the plane. Usually abandon it in the hotel.

I've never heard of that?, how does that work then? All online? no physical magazine I guess? Might be good on a tablet, rather than a computer.
