Things you don't see anymore...
A random thought entered my head as I was riding home the other day: you never see cars on tow anymore. I'm not talking recovery lorries with spectacle lifts and all that professional nonsense, I'm talking about a bloke in car towing his mate with a dodgy looking rope and hand-made 'ON TOW' sign in the back window.
That, and Gloria Vanderbilt jeans. And Falmer come to that. Or Lee Cooper.
But mostly cars on tow.

Towing a car here is illegal. Have to use a grua (pickup/recovery truck)
But it's free with your insurance.

Re: Things you don't see anymore...
Last time I saw a car being towed with a rope, it was my car.
My old Volvo did (what turned out to be) a final (for me anyway) non-start. So I called the local independent car servicing place that had maintained it for a few years.
I expected them to turn up with a dedicated recovery vehicle as they're a fairly substantial outfit. Nope. 2 blokes turned up in car with a rope - and no 'On Tow' sign - and off they went. No power steering, no power assistance on the brakes, no bother. The place is only about a mile away but the driver must have got a good workout.

If the dog is fed on a 'raw' food diet, you might.
It's made of ground up meat, gristle, and bone.
The bone isn't digested.

I have a 10 tonne tow rope in my van. Comes in handy when you get stuck in the mud. The first two times i got stuck a Dacia Duster came to the rescue. Oh the shame

An old friend used to have a trojan bubble car, he broke down on a regular basis, his father towed him home using a big yank caddy at over 70mph he was terrified as the trojan wouldnt do much over thirty. it ended up on its side in a ditch having not made a corner

Cars towed?
I've been towed and have towed on motorbikes, vans and I've even pushed a mates van the last 100 yards with my van (bumper to bumper) when he ran out of diesel at traffic lights just before a filling station.
It's a fucking free for all round here.

In Texas, down by the border, you'll see one truck with another 3 or 4 vehicles in tow using solid bars between them. They're headed to Mexico. All the vehicles, including the tow pig, will be beat to shit.gremlin wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 2:23 pm A random thought entered my head as I was riding home the other day: you never see cars on tow anymore.
