1970-2025 RIP The Imps

The curtain has officially fallen on the Imps Motorcycle Display Team, as the contents of the recently closed London-based charity were auctioned off last week.

Held by G J Wisdom & Co on Thursday, October 9, the sale saw decades of Imps history go under the hammer – from more than 80 off-road motorcycles to coaches, display equipment, and the red tunics once worn by the team’s young riders during demonstrations around the world.

Among the lots were also two Scania coaches, a double-decker trailer and artic unit, and a fully-equipped motorhome. The extensive collection also included Honda, Lexmoto, KTM, and Yamaha bikes, trailers, tents, tools, display ramps, and even site offices and shipping containers were available to buy.

The auction came just one month after trustees confirmed that the East London youth initiative would permanently close, following a late July announcement that all future performances had been cancelled.

A statement at the time read: “The Trustees of The Imps announce, with deep sadness, that following a full review and formal vote, the charity will now close permanently.”

They added that they “remain immensely grateful for the loyalty, passion, and support shown by the children, parents, volunteers, and wider community who made The Imps such a remarkable part of so many lives.”

Looks like a cool idea for kids. I'd never heard of them before.

No mention in that article of why they wound it all up.

I'd imagine getting insurance for that kind of thing must be very difficult.
