Dakar

Post by kendo57 »

I know a lot of things happen during the Daker but can't help thinking if Brabec had not got stuck behind a heard of camels
he would have won. Loosing by two seconds , ouch.

He could have won if he also twisted the throttle a little more somewhere as well? I feel for him a bit, 2 secs is nothing but may have well been 2 hrs.

But it's racing, it's sport, so much can happen that is either within or outside your control.

The Crash.net article referred to a 'navigation error' 7km from the finish that caused Brabec to lose a crucial 3 minutes and 22 seconds. Did it really take him that long to navigate around a herd of camels?

Yes he missed a turn near the end which cost him but navigation mistakes are part of the race , all competitors make them.
Same as 'just opening the throttle' but you have to ride at a pace which saves your tyres and engine to get you home.
Camels on the other hand was just bad luck , he found them on a narrow path with no way to get round. Maybe cost him
as little as 30 seconds but he lost by 2 .

I think the point people are making is that over a race of 5000 miles it's not going to be a singular incident that decides the outcome. Unless that's a crash or something?

I'm more impressed that there was only 2 secs between the first two!! That's two top class consistent riders.

Great to see the class win for the Landrover Defender team. Also took second place beating the Toyotas down to third.
