What's the differences then? (various MT's)

Chatting the other day to some friends and trying to work out the differences between the MT-09 and the MT-10 - I mean, the 10's got a slightly bigger engine but does that make 'that' much difference??

And then, the MT-10 and the MT-10SP??

I don't understand the differences enough to justify the price difference!! I mean, ok, the fancy doodah Ohlins suspension is worth some of the difference, but would an average road rider notice?

And what's this electronically controlled suspension?? I have to control/change the suspension as I'm going as well as not crashing?? :o :o :o

Anyway - differences/comparisons between

MT-09 vs MT-10

MT-10 vs MT-10SP

Oh God. First we let the girlies ride bikes. Then they become comedy bike journalists.

No, not that you have to but rather it is adjustable on the fly should you want to. Ohlins Semi Active suspension is electronically controlled - it adapts its behaviour depending on various conditions eg. acceleration, speed lean angle etc.

Arguably not necessary on the road but then a lot of things aren't, but are nice to have.

Getting all serious a minute, I'm not sure the Ohlins is better for many people

someone said the MT10 has the same engine as an R1M?

And thank you, that makes a bit more sense, didn't realise the 09 and the 10 had different engine styles too

It's an awful lot of extra money for a 'nice to have' though!! LOL I half like the idea of the adaptation, but I've never had a bike with fancy 'basic' suspension, so not sure if it would be fab or freaky!

The mt10 has a variation on the R1, which is a variation on an R1m. So they're half right.

Thank you. It does make more sense now I know the engines are different!! LOL LOL

Tried to sit on an MT10 last week but the 'city' dealer didn't have one in stock (or an MT09 ) and wasn't interested in talking to two girlies in frocks!! LOL

as always, make sure you test ride them all.

I test rode a MT09GT a couple of weeks ago and I wasn't really impressed enough to buy one considering I tend to keep my vehicles for a very long time. There was nothing really bad about, actually there was a lot to like, but it but it didn't really blow me away. The motor certainly wasn't lacking power as it accelerated very very well, but that 'taking off like a scalded cat' feeling got wearing quite quickly, as did the engine noise, that got right on my nerves after a while but a pair of ear plugs would sort that out easily.

and the 'comfort seat' is a crime against the trade descriptions. (the bike had 2 miles on the clock when I set off)

I did try the MT07 and bloody loved it. But it's way too small for what I'd want to do (physically and engine) - if I can still manage a bike next year!! LOL

But yes, will definitely find a dealer that has a few bikes that I could try :D :D

Yeah not much similar between the 09 and 10. Pretty much totally different bikes from engine to frame. The 10 engine with a pipe sounds glorious, like a Moto GP bike
