The easiest recipe I found said make a roux with butter and flour and add stock!!

Soooo, if nothing is open tomorrow, I’ll end up doing that LOL

I miss bisto too. But that’s just cos it’s so damned expensive here and I forgot to buy some when I was in the uk in March!! 🤣🤣

(The last lot was the veggie version. A chalet had a massive tub of it - 1kg Box or something - that wasn’t going to be in date for the next season, so I haven’t had to buy any for quite a long time 🤣🤣🤣🤣)

Yup, that.
If we all take our glasses back and clear our tables, they'll stop employing people to do it !
Then the price can come down.

+Marmite and Worcestershire sauce and even Soy sauce. They've all got loads of Umami and make the gravy taste more "savoury". Stock from a cube would just be salty really, so you'd be making thick salt water :D

A friend and I had drinks at a bar this winter, they had an app so you could pay the bill without needing the server. They charged a small fee to use the app! The app must be cheaper than a staff member they no longer need, yet the price has gone up !

I doubt it. They already have the staff and cant always cope with demand. I refuse to use self service tills in the supermarket as they are clearly taking jobs. Speaking to the staff in my local Tesco they have already noticed a reduction on staff. Not that they have been paying anyone off just not replacing a few that have left.

If i was not to clear my table in the bar due to having manners and someone came in after me they would be on some bike forum whining in the boil your piss section about how dirty the table was. No consideration that the staff are busy and will get to you when they can.

"Already noticed" :hmmm:

Self service checkouts have been a thing for nearly 20 years now!

Not in our Tesco they are not. 18-24 month at most. Local Aldi have introduced them also. No one on the tills in the evenings they were hoeing for but the queues were so long they had to put someone on the tills as these stupid things are next to useless when you have a trolly of goods. Now they need two staff on rather than the usual one in the evenings.

Beep. Age restricted item. Please wait for assistant. Beep. Repeat ad tedium. One time it was a box of laundry washing sachets.

I generally avoid automated tills.

Ah you're still all in the figuring out the new fangled machines phase ;)

Had em in all the supermarkets here for 15 years plus. Bish bash bosh, fire it all through with no messing about.

Tesco also always have a massive board of vacancies in the doorway so I can't imagine it's impacting staffing too much. They all just so online order picking instead!

I got ID'd as in actually asked to produce my licence for buying energy drink. I said to the brat "I'm 46, I have 9 kids and a granddaughter, my hair is grey and I'm clearly over 25 so just hit the button." He refused and the manager had to be called.

Dunno if it's the same now, but when I worked in a supermarket aged <18 you weren't allowed to make a judgement on whether someone was >18. You either needed ID or you needed to ask a grown up to make the call for you.

It's obviously pretty daft if the customer was 57 or whatever, but if you're a bum fluff faced teenager fresh off the training course and afraid of being fired....

This was in Tesco, there's actually a button that asks is the customer clearly over 25, they guy wasn't a scared wee teenager either, he would have been an early 20s hipster with a stupid waxed tache amd a man bun.

I like it when they ask, as it helps to reinforce my delusions of appearing youthful.
