Once a week maximum here*, the local Turk does a mean lamb kebab, chuck the pita away and I've got me a no fuss lamb salad.Taipan wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 3:49 pm We very rarely eat takeaways as I (mostly) don't like McDonald's etc.

At home, we probably only have 5 - 6 a year and that's normally driven by when my kids stay over. WHen we're away in the campervan we eat out the most, and then i'll scoff fish n chips with alarming regularity!MrLongbeard wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 4:04 pmOnce a week maximum here*, the local Turk does a mean lamb kebab, chuck the pita away and I've got me a no fuss lamb salad.Taipan wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 3:49 pm We very rarely eat takeaways as I (mostly) don't like McDonald's etc.
*although since I'm back on the low carb train that's dropping off, as there aren't that many choices that'll work that don't come with rice or chips
To be fair I'd expect a ground worker to be doing sufficient graft to burn off a maccy's lunch, what when I was a lad new to the work force it was over to the pub every lunch for a chip baguette and a pint, happy daysTaipan wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 4:22 pm My daughter's other half (Groundworker) seems to live on McDonalds for his lunch, but i think everyone he works with does

There were about 180-200 kids in my year through HS.. we had one fat bloke & one fat gal. Over here we get people posting pics from the beach in the '70's.. no fat fucks in the pics at all. Now we see kids waddling around & you just know they ain't gonna see 40... & just as I posted that I glanced at the TV which showed one fat fuck & her four fat fuck kids on the news, probably 750lb total right there & two of them were toddlers.MrLongbeard wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 12:40 pmFrom the commentsCount Steer wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 7:25 am Worth a read.
https://theconversation.com/five-things ... 0nutritionProbably true (before my time) but then you couldn't get shite like this https://www.independent.co.uk/life-styl ... 02278.html delivered to your door in under 30 minutes. This is a relatively knew phenomenon. When I was at school in the ‘50s, '60s and '70s it was unusual to see obese people of whatever age
Never have I been so happy to not live within close distance to a chain takeaway and the food delivery co's haven't got a foothold in our town
One of my friends here struggles with weight (and depression so the second does have a habit of making the first worst) and while out here he always looses some weight - different eating style and more active. Then in the interseasons he's goes back to living in a city - less active, on demand deliveroo (i think that's what it's called), and he just gets back into bad habitsMrLongbeard wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 12:40 pmFrom the commentsCount Steer wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 7:25 am Worth a read.

It's so so easy to make quite a lot of Chinese takeaway food, and if you do as most pros suggest (cook the night before to make fried rice the next day) then the carb changes and it's ok to eat as doesn't spike like freshly cooked rice doesMrLongbeard wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 4:04 pmOnce a week maximum here*, the local Turk does a mean lamb kebab, chuck the pita away and I've got me a no fuss lamb salad.Taipan wrote: Thu Aug 07, 2025 3:49 pm We very rarely eat takeaways as I (mostly) don't like McDonald's etc.

I suspect many people will either stop, go into (further) debt or seek cheaper, potentially counterfeit, alternative sources.
Donald Trump, the gift that keeps on giving…
The U.S. pays more for prescription drugs than any other country, often nearly three times as much as other developed nations. Trump says he wants to narrow this gap to stop Americans from being "ripped off.

My online pharmacy has been in contact to say they can migrate people to Wegovy / ozempic at a lower cost so that’s always an option for me to consider. Dropped a stone so far, so hopefully the next half and a bit will fuck off before winter appears and I start shoveling pasta into my face by the gallon (yes, yes, I'll be monitoring to make sure it doesn't all pile back on, and balancing it out with soup - at least, that's the plan)

You'd be close to saving that a month in food you won't be eating
