Can't see any amazing deals... unless you want a two year old Superduke 1290GT.
Not sure about the savings on the 990 Duke.
You' are many, many months out of date already...mangocrazy wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:55 pm How long before KTM want to take back the single cylinder horsepower bragging rights trophy from Ducati...?
Yeah that thing was SHARP! Arguably a bit too much to be honest... Which is why I think they softened it a little bit for the 990 I think.mangocrazy wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:55 pm I still wish they had the Duke 890R in their range, That thing was a proper weapon.
There's zero market for sporty singles any more... The Supermoto market has all but died off, the market for sporty single cylinder naked bikes is non-existent these days. The retro single market is booming, but for anything sporty people expect to have 2 cylinders or more these days... Emphasised when KTM's own 790 Duke undercut the 690 when it was launched, with 30bhp more and a lot more tech, a sharper chassis, and only about 15kg more weight.mangocrazy wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 9:47 pm Ah yes, I do vaguely recall hearing about the updated 690. Shame its SMC-R/Enduro only, they really should bring back the 690 Duke.
Most would consider me a pretty hardcore KTM fan... I'm not sure that I bleed orange, but KTM is certainly a drug that I need my fix of every so often... I went to test ride a Duke 890R absolutely certain that I was going to buy it... And honestly, it was just too focussed! It had absolutely zero chill... As a bike to grab by the scruff of the neck and kick the shit out of for an hour on a Sunday morning, or even take on track and duff up the 1000cc boys in the corners, it is almost without parallel I'd say. But whilst that appeals, I needed something that was capable of making me feel a million dollars when I was kicking its head in, but that would also chill with the best of them too... And that's how I ended up with my Indian FTR 1200!mangocrazy wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 9:47 pm The 890R was KTM in its purest form, but I guess it didn't sell the required amount.
mboy wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:28 pm As an existing KTM owner, I am mildly surprised by just how little these deals are going to mess up the 2nd hand value of my bike!
Not that I'm looking to sell it mind... But given how far in the shit KTM are/were, I'm very surprised they haven't been literally giving them away given that many of these bikes are 3/4yr models now, and in the case of the SD 1290 GT, it's a 10yr old bike that had a facelift 7yrs ago and a new dash 4yrs ago...
I think that they were much more successful in doing that because of the quality control issues of recent years, and looking like the company would go under, taking all dealer support and much of the parts support with them.KungFooBob wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 8:03 pm It's that time of year KTM fuckover existing owners by devaluing their bikes on the used market![]()
For sure… I’ve contemplated going back to one several times myself! I think if my GF never came pillion, I’d have gone back to one by now… The moment I sold mine and bought a 1200 GS, I knew I’d make a huge mistake, and was back on KTM within 6 months albeit a 1290 Super Adventure, and am on my 2nd of those now too… The Super Adventure is just a touch more approachable, with its milder cams and greater creature comforts, but still an animal in its own right.Wossname wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 11:14 pm ….which shows how good the original was, 10 years ago. It’s still a thundering, do it all, grin on yer face piece of kit. Name me another equivalent bike…

Almost all of it was off road bikes though... Good news for @Yorick potentially! The Spin Doctor wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 6:56 pm They had 20,000 2023 and 2024 bikes to shift last spring when they went under. I suspect prices will be 'negotiable' for quite a while.
Incidentally, they hardly built a single '2025' bike because production lines were at a standstill for much of the year.
I got the figure wrong... 265 THOUSAND unsold bikes.mboy wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 8:35 pmAlmost all of it was off road bikes though... Did think your figure looked a little low at first...The Spin Doctor wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 7:42 pm I got the figure wrong... 265 THOUSAND unsold bikes.
I think the small singles built by Bajaj in India were pretty much sold as they were made. Dunno about the Chinese-built bikes, but certainly the Austrian production line was massively overproducing.mboy wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 9:36 pm That is a global figure though... They were making upwards of 400k bikes per year at their height, 7 months worth of overstock and no wonder they were in the shit!
Hard to see how they didn't see a couple of years earlier they were in difficulty. Maybe they did - it would explain the desperation to build a platform every 100cc then turn each into several different bikes!Quick sums with an average sale value of say 6k euros (value to KTM rather than retailer), and that means they had 1.6Bn Euro's worth of unsold inventory!!!
Which is still only 1/2 of what they owed their suppliers!!!![]()
