The £60 tyre I bought today for the Triton might be a recklessly big investment.

Cracking bike - more so that my dad had one in his youth, got a photo of him as a lad stood with it somewhere. Will have to dig out the pic.

A good decade or more ago I was thinking of buying a 4XV,I think they look great in the red & white colour scheme, but I needed my licence for my job & couldn't imagine riding one & not indulging in frequent spells of 'spirited riding',I also wondered how I'd get on with the riding position in my old age so I thought better of it.These days I think the same about K5 GSXR750's.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 7:06 pm R1s are sensible money, I toy with getting a 99 one (I had a 98 one) for track days, but 26 years ago my R1 was much faster than me and I never felt like I was using it's performance, so if I buy another track bike it will probably have 50% of the power of an R1 just so I feel like I'm using it.

The trouble with the early R1 is that it's a bike that wants to go fast, it doesn't work pootling about, I rode my one as fast as I could, but it always felt like it wanted to go faster.Bustaspoke wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 8:28 pmA good decade or more ago I was thinking of buying a 4XV,I think they look great in the red & white colour scheme, but I needed my licence for my job & couldn't imagine riding one & not indulging in frequent spells of 'spirited riding',I also wondered how I'd get on with the riding position in my old age so I thought better of it.These days I think the same about K5 GSXR750's.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 7:06 pm R1s are sensible money, I toy with getting a 99 one (I had a 98 one) for track days, but 26 years ago my R1 was much faster than me and I never felt like I was using it's performance, so if I buy another track bike it will probably have 50% of the power of an R1 just so I feel like I'm using it.

I often forget I have it, I don't think I've ridden it since 2022.
It's got a lot of flex in it, so you need to work with soft materials or go very slowly, but it gets the job done.cheb wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 5:20 pm Any lathe is better than no lathe. My moving has meant giving my Harrison L9, which is a bit of a shame.
It's got me out of a few fixes when I needed something, I managed to make some parts to get my lads motorcycle through an MOT, the lads in the bike shop thought I was some sort of wizard when I took it in and they saw it, they only fit parts off shelves, making parts is like witchcraft to them.
