Cut all that shit out, only eat single ingredient food lots of animal fat no carbs and lots of fresh meat and green veg and watch the weight just fall off.
It’s good advice but we don’t eat processed food ( or very little). Home cooked from scratch every single day, lunch and dinner. Has been like that for years. Family of 7, shopping bill for the month is typically £1500. No sugars.

Alcohol and bad genes. Alcohol used to be a lot, now it’s 8 pints a week max. If that.

There is certainly stacked evidence of the prophylactic benefits of statins in the prevention of strokes etc. 👍

I've been on statins for 10+ years, I've never had any adverse effects (Atorvastatin).
My cholesterol was never stupidly high but think it was more of a 'just in case' on turning 40 and enjoying life a bit too much :D

I get tested every few years and my score, whatever scale they use, is in the 4's. We generally cook fresh at home but do eat out a reasonable amount, wine is probably my downfall these days....

Mine was 27%. Anything over 10% and apparently you are strongly advised on medical intervention ( typically statins).

I’m starting a programme that will help me lose timber and get fitter
What age are you?

My score: 14

But I'm guessing that's based mainly on two aspects:

Age; older people more likely to suffer heart attacks (albeit less for non-smokers

BMI; I'm on the border of green/orange (24? Or thereabouts). I've put on weight in the last four years - but mainly muscle. After decades of sedentary life, I exercise (cardio and strength, walking, and yoga). Had my cholesterol checked last year, in normal range. I eat plenty of fibre, fruit and veg, very little refined sugar.

I'm in no rush to get statins, whatever the score.
Even bland can be a type of character

I had a long chat with a cardiologist friend of mine today ( perks of the job 😀)

He said there is enough evidence to suggest that everyone over the age of 40 should be on statins and then proceeded to show me mountains of research. He’s been a heart surgeon for 30 years so this isn’t a vested interest, but it was a good chat.

I feel more reassured. I know losing weight will help.

I’ve already cut out all sweets, sugar, processed food. I’m only left with booze, which I might just drop and getting bummed by Scott Mills. I don’t want to curb all vices!
Your Doc friend is right on the statins, many people with long term illnesses like diabetes get statins prescribed as part of their meds below 40. What the doc didn't mention is you can't beat good genes ;)

Tho quite a few people have side effects from statins, some real some placebo. Also older statins (such as simvastatin) need to be taken on an empty stomach and before bed as it work better overnight/sleep. While newer statins lipitor/atorvaststin can be taken at anytime but do cause some people to fall asleep/pass out if they sit still.

Did the doc talk about the link to oral health and heart disease?
