I know I really really shouldn't but I'm looking at buying a 1960 Triumph Tiger Cub 199cc. My Dad passed away in 2000 and this is a bike he bought brand new as a youngster, until he had a nasty hit and run with a vehicle. I didn't start with bikes until after he died and think that would have been something that, with my career, he would have been proud of, and that we certainly could have had a mutual interest in, maybe getting him back on the road?
I've been wanting something from my year of birth 1970, but tbh, there's not much from that era that I fancy. So had the idea of getting the same thing that he bought?
Not really sure how to go about buying something that old mind you? I'm not very mechanically minded so keeping it on the road might be a challenge? The budget may be a challenge as well. And i'll probably have to get one that the wife doesn't know about until after it arrives, better to ask forgiveness etc...
Get into a Triumph club forum and gather as much info as you can. There may even be a forum / fb goup specifically for the small Cubs.
Iirc they're fairly simple machines, and if you buy one that's a runner and complete then you shouldn't have any immediate issues. They'll need more maintenance than a modern bike, but you'll not be doing high miles.

Back in the day there used to be bunch of Tiger Cub owners in South London who had modified the hell out of their bikes* & would pretty much race everywhere they went. It all looked & sounded very impressive.. until you realized they were blasting around at 30mph & struggled to pass a bus...
One showed up on FB Marketplace a couple of days ago
*Open megaphone exhausts, clip-ons by the front wheel spindle, rear-sets so far back you could change gear on the bike behind you etc

Join one of the f/b owner's groups,it'll give you an idea of what to look for and what goes wrong.
I know little about Brit iron, but they are very simple bikes to work on and don't cost a pile of money in comparison to many other classics.

You know, the things you sit there for a while on your Ebay/whatever list, sitting in your favourites but can't quite bring yourself to buy...
I've got this which is pretty much what i already own, but in carbon instead.... Just needs to be the right money and it may get bought.. OR i may remove from my list before it ends...
My other one was a JAckery which we've planned on buying/not-buying for the last God knows how long. But that got bought.
Still debating the carbon. I've listed my bike but although I have watchers, none of any interest coming in yet.
So im still slightly torn on a plan.
Well I WAS considering buying another '83 GPz11 if the current one continued to manifest gremlins, but today's successful test ride* of the one I already have put a delay on that.... at least for a while. I need space for a few more motorcycles:
GPz900R
GPz750Turbo
GPz750
KZ1100R or a GPz11-B2
and the aforementioned 2nd GPz1100-A (& maybe a 3rd & 4th)
*It fueled perfectly, howled the rear tire away from a stop & went straight up to an indicated 145mph
I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy another Supermoto.
I was fully set on another 690SMCR as the plan is my current bike will stay in the UK. I was thinking to buy a similar age bike and have it a similar spec. But I'm now considering a KTM450/500 Supermoto. The roads round my summer job are epically good for supermoto. But some are very tight and twisty, I know I'd have more fun on a lighter bike, and I don't think the bigger twisty roads will be any less fun then on the 690
It's about 20 miles away. Got a mate who can sort the seat, got another mate who could put an '83 Rainey/Muzzy paint job on it & another mate who does powder coating for materials & ammo.
Plus I could drop it off at another mates place of business to store/hide it & get it all up to snuff as he was a Kaw dealer mech for over 20 years.
I should see the paint mate at the RockStore on the 19th to get a quote.

Another camera, namely a Fujifilm X-E5.
At the weekend the wife had a Friendface Mammary popup with a photo from 14 years ago. She had an Olympus compact digital camera hung around her neck. It was a reminder of those ancient times when people didn't just use their highend smartphones for photos.

Kinda why i'm pondering and not just buying. The old saying is the best camera is the one you have in your hand and we always carry our phones. So will another camera just be heading for the loft-of-plenty...
I impulsively buy too much stuff to get that dopamine fix. It's a cure. Before I had money, I'd go in to debt- now, my spending hasn't changed. Hate it.
Tomorrow I have a new Robotvacuum on order. I already have a good one and don't need it. I have 2 apple displays that are 3 months old and have just ordered two of the new ones that have come out.
